RITE OF SPRING - PROCESS

Claudia Schreier's Rite of Spring was an exploration in the consequences of disharmony with nature and each other, depicting the decline of a community who stripped nature of its resources to their own detriment, and ultimately resolved to sacrifice one of their own in a vain attempt to retrieve what they lost due to their own actions.

Conceptually the first act began with harmony, utilizing fluttering shapes and fabrics printed with plants. The second act is much more reduced, with pleats and cording creating a sense of bony carapace beneath the original soft shapes.
