CARNIVALE - PROCESS
Costume design for Carnivale began with a glance at the visual trope of the Harlequin from the commedia dell'arte tradition, before spiraling away into a playful blend of organic and inorganic shape interplay. The choreography reflected a story of a group of friends who gleefully tease a couple within their number who clearly are developing a romance.
The color choices reflect the bright and playful energy of the choreography, with applique and piecing of velvet used to wind around the body and carry visual movement beyond the turn of the physical body.
